Mayor's Message - Jan. / Feb. 2017

As we endure the elements of winter and look forward to the sunny days of spring, I want to wish you all the best in the New Year – 2017! I know that this is going to be a banner year for the Village of Glenwood as we double our efforts to “Move Glenwood Forward”.

The Holidays have passed and I hope that you were given the opportunity to enjoy your family and friends. I want to extend my personal thanks to all of our Village Staff for the work they do on a daily basis to maintain our community and keep it safe, but mostly to show our appreciation to the Public Works Department for the excellent job they continue to do with our roads in times of snow and ice.

We recently received the Annual Financial Audit for the Village finances and I am proud to report that the Village is in very sound financial condition. The Staff has worked diligently to reduce expenditures while enhancing the service levels to our residents while maximizing the reserves in our various funds. The Annual Municipal Audit is the single most important indicator of the financial stability of any community and I am proud to report that Glenwood is in great condition!

Work continues on the planning for the “re-birth” of the Glenwood Plaza. The planning phase will carry us into the summer. This is an exciting project for the Village as it is the “Gateway to our Community” and we have an opportunity to develop it in such a way that it will serve the needs of our residents in the best form for years to come. I welcome any of your comments and suggestions as we continue to plan.

While I welcome Mr. Dion D. Lynch to the Plan Commission and thank him for his service to the residents of Glenwood, it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to a dear friend of the Village, Mr. Leo Alexander (Husband of JoAnne our Senior Center Director). Leo was more than a friend to this Village and was always at JoAnne’s side as she tended to the needs of our residents. Thank You Leo!

I want to thank Addie Mix and Gloria Randolph for their 25 plus years of service to our youth as the founding members of Reclaim A Youth – R.A.Y. Countless youngsters in our community have benefitted from their intense efforts and I will be forever grateful for their hard work.

I firmly believe that Glenwood is “The Gem of the Southland” and it is my goal in 2017 to assure that our community grows and prospers. The fine efforts of the various Departments of the Village, from the Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works Department, Glenwoodie and the Front Office Staff truly show this community they are ready to serve you no matter the need.

If you have an interest to serve the community in any volunteer capacity, on a commission, board or volunteer committee, please reach out to me as I constantly need individuals to serve.

Thank You for your continued support of the Village of Glenwood!
