Mayor's Message - Summer 2016

The Dog Days of Summer will be upon us shortly. The Village is working diligently to “Move Glenwood Forward” as we continue our quest to redevelop the former Glenwood Plaza. As you can see, the demolition has begun and the planning is under way to bring you a revitalized center that will reshape the “Front Door” to our community.

As we finalize both the developer and the plans, we will be rolling out the exciting design and be presenting you the concept drawings that will result in a modern day shopping experience. This will provide products and services to our residents while enhancing our tax base and land values. Please visit the Village of Glenwood website for updates.

We have been working with the owners of the Town Center Plaza on Glenwood-Lansing Road and we are pleased to have three new businesses coming to that center. Please take some time to visit and patronize the A-1 Grille, The Food Hub Grocery and Krazy Hog BBQ. These three new businesses join Arrenello’s Pizza, Emporium Liquors, Chloe’s Mexican Restaurant, Allstate Insurance and Little Scholars Child Development Center. These new businesses will strengthen the entire plaza and provide much needed commodities and service to the east side of our town.

The new middle school is nearing completion and we would like to congratulate the School Board on this monumental accomplishment, “Moving Glenwood Forward” in a fashion that will educate our youth and prepare tomorrow’s leaders. Thank you District 167 Board of Education!

The resurgence of the Annual 4th of July Parade and Family Fest was a resounding success and I look forward to expanding this in the years to come to provide a growing sense of community in our Village.

The Village held it’s first Sustainable Saturday Recycling Event this past Saturday, June 4, 2016. The next event will be Community Clean-Up Weekend will be held on September 10, 2016 at the Village Hall complex. Help us to do our part in saving the earth while beautifying our community.

The Open Market will debut on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Sign up and come out to sell your wares. This will be a super sale for the whole community on the streets just west of the Village Hall.

We are partnering with Fetching Market to enhance our Holiday Market offering. The Fetching Market will be held at our beautiful Glenwoodie Golf Course on November 18 & 19, 2016. The event will feature crafters, antiques, food and beverage delicacies and much more. Come out and enjoy a holiday setting and satisfy your shopping urge.

I stand ready to serve the needs of the community. I will continue to update you on projects and initiatives that will enhance our community. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, suggestions or feedback that will enhance our mission of “Moving Glenwood Forward”.
