Forest Preserves of Cook County to host Fall Paddle Festival
Attendees can extend the experience with Family Campout
The public is invited to join the Forest Preserves of Cook County for the Fall Paddle Festival from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Camp Bullfrog Lake on Saturday, October 1. During the free event, attendees can enjoy canoeing and kayaking, pumpkin painting, archery and more.
“Both campers at the site as well as anyone from the general public can come out to enjoy the fall season through a variety of activities. We will be providing ongoing canoe and kayak trips on Bullfrog Lake throughout the event to those who are five years of age and older,” said Justin Mercer, program coordinator for the Forest Preserves. “Additionally, we will be offering guided hikes on the hour and natural tie dying. We will have a limited number of t-shirts to give out for the tie dying, but if attendees want to make sure they can tie dye, we encourage them to bring their own shirt.”
Attendees who would like to extend their experience are also invited to make a reservation to stay overnight for the Forest Preserves’ Family Campout. This special overnight tent camping experience is a great introduction to camping for families. Gear including sleeping bags, pads and a tent, as well as basic skills training, dinner and breakfast cookouts, and outdoor activities are included. The cost is $75 for family groups up to six. Camperships are available for families with financial need through the Forest Preserve Foundation. For information on the Family Campout or to register, email experiencecamping@cookcountyil.gov.
Throughout the event, staff will be onsite to provide information on the Forest Preserves’ five campgrounds, as well as answer any questions on the Forest Preserves and upcoming programs. Camp Bullfrog Lake is located at 9600 Wolf Rd in Willow Springs. For more information on Fall Paddle Festival, call the Forest Preserves at 312-533-5751.
A complete listing of all programs is posted to the Forest Preserves events website at fpdcc.com/events with seasonal brochures that can be downloaded.
